Blue Shar Pei or Black Shar Pei
The Chinese Shar Pei comes in just about every color. The coat must be solid in color for the Shar Pei dog to be eligible to compete in AKC conformation shows. Patterned colors, saddle patterns, two tones, or spotted colors are a disqualification from the AKC show ring, but have no impact on the health of the Shar Pei dog or their being a wonderful companion dog. The nose may be black or brick (pink with black) and the Shar Pei dog may or may not have a black mask. The tongue is black or bluish-black in pigmented dogs. In a dilute color, the nose and anus of the dog are the same color as the coat and the dilute colors also have more of a lavender colored tongue. A spotted tongue is a major fault and a pink tongue is a disqualification from the AKC show ring, but again has no negative impact on the dog's health and does not mean the Shar Pei is from a mixed breeding.
